So, what does Programme Support involve?
I coordinate programmes, which means I organise each programme from start to finish. Every programme is different and has different requirements, but some of what I do includes: contacting schools to get students involved; contacting companies to get employees involved; keeping participants informed with the information they need; answering any questions people have; and ensuring the team at Visionpath know what's going on.
Organising a big group of people can take lots of time. But my aim is for the event to run smoothly and for everyone to benefit from the experience!
"We give both the youth and the companies a deeper view into what it means to support and mentor one another along this journey"
What made you want to work for Visionpath?
I work for Visionpath because I believe in the work we do: helping young people see the many career opportunities available to them and assisting them in starting on their career paths. I like that we do this differently – we give both the youth and the companies a deeper view into what it means to support and mentor one another along this journey. This creates a more positive and open work environment.
What’s the best part of your job?
Supporting both the students and the companies through the process – and knowing that each is in good hands – creates a positive work environment and a greater likelihood of success.
What’s your personal experience of social inequality?
Over the years I’ve worked with many people who’ve missed out on opportunities because of social inequality. I believe knowledge is power and support is key when helping people along their journey.
Why do you think businesses are mad to miss out on socially diverse talent?
Businesses should look to the entire talent pool – each different person can bring diverse knowledge and experience to their company. Channeling this diversity and encouraging a workplace where everyone feels welcome to be themselves creates a dynamic workplace where people thrive and grow. In turn, the company will thrive and grow, too.
"I believe knowledge is power and support is key when helping people along their journey."
What advice would you give your 18-year-old self?
Life can take you in many directions and not always along the path you planned, but that's okay. Things change. People change. Work hard, make informed decisions, and have fun!
What do you love to do outside of work?
I love helping people. I really do believe knowledge is power – being able to make an informed decision is very powerful. I love education, learning new things, and passing on that information in a real and relatable way.
Here at Visionpath, we do what we do because we want all young people – no matter their background – to start their career on an equal footing. And because we know that, right now, businesses are missing out on a wealth of untapped talent.
